  • Your VM bargaining team met with the employer between May 25 and 27, 2016. We received presentations from Gerard Etienne on agency transformation, and John Morgan from the Learning Division, on training and learning initiatives in CFIA.

  • The VM Bargaining Team met with the employer to exchange initial proposals on March 30 and 31, 2016. Both sides presented their proposals and initial justifications for each proposal. Your bargaining team made a presentation on scientific integrity and engaged in a discussion with the employer around issues of scientific integrity. In addition we had some initial discussions with respect to the labour relations proposals that both parties are making.

  • On February 27, 2015 the Professional Institute of the Public Service (PIPSC) of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to move forward on the several hundred outstanding work description grievances that resulted from the roll out of the generic work descriptions in 2011.

  • As you are aware, now that your contracts are settled, there is the issue of severance pay that needs to be dealt with. Employees have 3 options on what to do with their severance pay: cash out their accumulated severance pay, cash out some and leave the rest until retirement, or leave it all in until retirement.

  • On April 25th, 2012 the VM bargaining team met with the employer. The Institute stated that considering the employers potential economic offer of 1.75%, 1.5% and 2% and the reduction of severance benefits, it saw no advantage that such a proposal would represent in relation to the 20% to 25% of the members receiving affected letters.
