CMCC Bargaining Update
Your bargaining team, John Willis, Lee-Ann Martin, Matthew Betts and David Calvert (PIPSC Negotiator), exchanged bargaining proposals with the employer on January 11, 2012. As well, we followed up with 3 days of bargaining from January 24-26, 2012.
You need to know that the employer is demanding a number of concessions over and above the demand that we give up our Severance on retirement or resignation. While some of these concessions have been tabled by other employers, it seems that our employer is the only one to have tabled them all. It may be too soon to be sure, but it seems that this is going to be a very challenging round of bargaining.
The elephant in the room was, of course, the upcoming budget. It will no doubt provide us with a very clear idea of what to expect as we continue to fight to keep what we have in our collective agreement.
We will be back at the table in early April. By then the budget will have been tabled and we’ll know what we are up against.
