Ratification of Tentative Agreement for the New Brunswick Crown Prosecutors
Subject: Ratification of tentative agreement
On March 18, 2016, after three (3) days in conciliation, a tentative agreement was reached by the parties for the renewal of the collective agreement.
The term of the new contract is five (5) years and three (3) months, in effect from April 1, 2013 to June 30, 2018.
Among the proposed amendments to the collective agreement are classification changes (Lawyer 1 and 2 will be renamed “Lawyer” and Lawyer 3 and 4 will be renamed “Senior Lawyer”), Article 20 – Wages and Allowances (acting pay after a period of 10 days instead of 1 month), Article 38 - Employee Benefits Programs (Guaranteed Law Society Fees and Professional Development), Article 39 – Retirement and Layoff Allowance (Discontinuance of Retirement Allowance), and Schedule A (effective October 1, the CPM at current Lawyer 3 will be placed at Step 22).
The proposed General Economic Increase is 4.55% over the duration of the collective agreement, plus an additional 2.5% wage adjustment at the end of the contract in exchange for the discontinuance of the retirement allowance.
Members will be able to vote electronically from July 28 to August 3 at 5 pm (Ottawa time). On July 29 every member will receive a personal identification number (PIN). Votes will be confidential and results will be announced shortly after.
The Institute believes that the tentative agreement outlined below is the best settlement it could get in this round of bargaining and encourages members to vote Yes to ratify the deal.
*Please note that the issue on paid parking has not been resolved yet. The government decision of April on parking has been suspended indefinitely.
