NR Bargaining Update # 3
Your Bargaining Team met with the Employer over 2 ½ days June 9-11th. The sessions were characterized by a useful and informative exchange of ideas, particularly around professional recognition and professional development. While we we did not reach an agreement on any significant issues, the overall discussion was helpful in a general sense.
In particular, we had an interesting discussion regarding the payment of Professional dues covered by Articles 21.01 & 21.02 of the Collective Agreement. We have proposed a rewording of 21.01 and deletion of 21.02 to provide much simpler language that, in effect, would provide reimbursement to all members of the NR Group who pay fees. The Employer’s response was that since the existing two clauses essentially cover all members there was no need for a change. We respectfully disagreed and pointed out that there are not two classes of registered professionals and therefore no need for separate clauses. This is somewhat similar to the notion that a woman can be a little bit pregnant. We expect to resume this discussion with the Employer when we next return to the Table, on September 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
To help your Bargaining Team, we would like to hear of any instances where you have experienced problems with the reimbursement of fees. This information can be provided to our Negotiator, Evan Heidinger. Detailed information and specific examples really do help your Bargaining Team.
Our next bargaining session is planned for the first week of September. If you have any questions, concerns or comments, your Bargaining Team members can be contacted via the contact information on the Institute’s web site.
