NR BARGAINING UPDATE #6
Your bargaining team met with the Employer over 3 days on June 7-9. At our last meeting in March, the first since the change in Government, we were extremely disappointed that our Employer had nothing new to offer. Unfortunately this report has little to add to our previous experience from our last meeting. It would seem to be a case of “Its déjà vu all over again”
As in previous meetings we did sign-off on some minor housekeeping issues, and continued to present and discuss some of our priority issues which received limited feedback from the Employer.
We had originally agreed to meet again in July, unfortunately the employer is no longer available so those dates are lost and our next meeting is now scheduled for the last week of September. This will mark the 2nd anniversary of our contract expiring, meaning members have not seen a pay increase in 3 years.
On a more positive note the Liberal government has publicly indicated they intend to repeal parts of bill C4, more information is available.
In addition the Institute provides regular updates on bargaining on the website.
As you may be aware the Institute has made some strategic decisions related to bargaining in an effort to move things forward. This includes the major issues of Sick Leave and Short Term Disability, and WFA, which will now be negotiated at two common tables. The NR Group has appointed individuals to represent us on both Institute negotiation teams.
The WFA Team met the Employer for the first time during the same week as our meeting with Treasury Board. A Bargaining Update has been published on the Institute’s website; members can view it.
We continue to be frustrated with the pace of these negotiations but will continue to present our priorities that represent your needs as professionals.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
