NR Perspective - Why are Public Sector Employees Responsible for the Economic Burden?

A recent article in the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) Dimensions magazine reported salaries of engineers in Ontario are on the rise despite the recession. The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers reported "Results of the 2009 OSPE employer compensation survey show year-over-year median base pay increased for all engineering responsibility levels. The increases...outpaced the change in the Ontario Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the same period."

Bill C-10 affects all PIPSC members and gives the public the perception that we are over paid and that we need to take the economic burden. This is not the time to sit waiting for the next round of bargaining, rather start using such information to to convey to the public the need for fair compensation - for ourselves and future professionals. The challenge starts now.
