NRC IS/LS/TR Bargaining Update #1
Collective bargaining had a slow start for our group, due to changes in negotiators for both the Employer and the Union. However, both teams are now stable and have been working hard over the last month to narrow down the issues and move closer to a collective agreement.
PIPSC and the NRC have held bargaining meetings on the following days:
December 7, 2011 - Exchange of bargaining demands
January 16-17, 2012 - Bargaining with the Employer
May 30-31, 2012 - Bargaining with the Employer
July 4-5, 2012 - Bargaining with the Employer
The Employer presented its economic and severance package on May 30, 2012 and PIPSC presented its economic package on July 4, 2012. The parties have had initial discussions on the pay proposals but are still far from an agreement. Future meetings are planned in early fall to achieve a tentative agreement, but should this not be possible we will be applying for binding arbitration. The two sides have already signed off on a number of editorial and small changes to the collective agreement. Items signed off do not become official entitlements until we have reached a tentative agreement in full.
