  • On June 1, 2017 the Institute and the employer signed the RE collective agreement. This marks the conclusion of a successful and historic round of bargaining that focused the RE Group’s efforts on public interest bargaining issues such as the muzzling of government scientists.

  • Several weeks ago, we let you know that the Employer had offered bargaining agents the option to pursue a mechanism called ‘binding conciliation’ (essentially similar to the previous arbitration route) rather than the ‘conciliation strike’ (perhaps more accurately the ‘conciliation with right-to-strike’) path that all groups with fewer than 80% essential services were under the terms of 2014’s Budget Implementation Act (C-4).

  • The RE Group returned to the bargaining table June 28-29, 2016. The discussions covered a number of issues, including membership in professional organizations, MA salaries and the career development consultation committee. The bargaining team presented a petition on MA pay and its decline over the last 25 years.

  • In a win for Research Group, The Public Service Labour Relations and Employment Board has overturned a decision by Natural Resources Canada to refuse permission for a research scientist to attend a scientific conference as part of his professional development.

  • Only the provision of Severance Pay is affected by the date of signing- Under the terms imposed by the arbitration, indeterminate employees shall be entitled as of November 7th, 2012 to severance termination benefits equal to (1) weeks pay for each complete year of continuous employment and, in the case of a partial year, one year pro-rated to a maximum of 30 weeks.

  • A spooky horde of zombies surrounded the offices of Library and Archives Canada in Gatineau on Wednesday, October 31st around lunch time. Witnesses said that the zombies were hungry for brains, and were in search of the dead and dying.

  • On April 30, 2012, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) eliminated the National Archival Development Program (NADP), a $1.7 million contribution program administered for the LAC by the non-profit Canadian Council of Archives (CCA) and distributed to 13 provincial and territorial archives councils to support archival activities locally.
