A First Collective Agreement for the Sunnybrook Mechanical and Electronic Technologists Group
On June 1, 2012, after five days of negotiation, the Institute and Sunnybrook Hospital have reached a tentative agreement. Not only will our members not lose any of the terms and conditions of employment covering them as non-represented, they will also benefit from significant improvements. The collective agreement will cover the period of October 5, 2010 to March 31, 2014. Members will receive a 2.5% economic increase on April 1, 2012 and a 2.75% economic increase on April 1, 2013. The Mechanical Technologists (MT) will receive an additional .35 cents an hour on September 29, 2012 and an additional .65 cents an hour on September 28, 2013. All shift premiums are increased by .25 cents an hour. The on call premium for weekdays and weekends is increased by .80 cents an hour and paid holidays by $1.60 an hour. Vacation entitlements are also improved: 5 weeks vacation after 13 years of service (instead of 15) and 6 weeks after 22 years of service (instead of 25). The Institute recommends the ratification of this agreement to the membership. Members will be voting within the next two weeks.
