Journée internationale de la Francophonie: March 20, 2016

On March 20 of each year, the Journée internationale de la francophonie is celebrated around the world.

Two hundred twenty million Francophones on five continents celebrate their language and share its diversity through word contests, shows, film festivals, literary meetings, culinary events and art exhibits, to name a few.

The date was chosen in connection with March 20, 1970, when the Agence de coopération culturelle et technique (ACCT), now the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), was founded in Niamey, Niger.

Each year, you can find a list of the activities planned by the 80 OIF member states, and other countries where French is less spoken, at www.20mars.francophonie.org. For more information about the OIF, we encourage you to visit the following web page: www.francophonie.org
