In Memoriam: Jack Donegani

It is with great sadness that the Institute learned that Jack Donegani passed away on January 10, 2014. He served as President of PIPSC from 1980 to 1985. The following text will be published in the Ottawa Citizen on February 8, 2014.

“Passed away at his new home in Victoria, BC on January 10, 2014 in his 67th year - originally from Verdun, Quebec. He was loving husband of Denise Bennett, dear father of Neal (Melanie) and proud grandfather to Finley. Jack was a graduate of U of T, M.Sc. Physics 1974-75 and York, MBA Public Administration 1976-79. He was President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (1980-1985), where he established and maintained a philosophy of strong collaboration with staff, fought unconditionally for the member’s best interest and brought great visibility to the Institute with the media. He later worked as a counsellor at Serenity House in Ottawa and, with Denise, was a long-time volunteer with the National Capital Marathon. In August 2013, Jack enjoyed the adventure of a solo cross-Canada drive to move to BC to be close to his family. He will be greatly missed and fondly thought of by many. He was a brilliant man and a gentle giant.

In memoriam, donations to Serenity House or the YMCA/YWCA would be greatly appreciated.”

Online condolences and memories can be expressed online when this notice is published in the Citizen.

Professional Institute members extend their heartfelt condolences to Jack’s family and friends.
