Celebrate National Nursing Week: May 8-14, 2017

May 8 – 14, 2017 is National Nursing Week, and May 12, the birthday of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, marks International Nurses Day.

The Professional Institute commends our members who are nurses for their collective efforts to address major health and social challenges facing our country and the world.

This year’s theme for National Nursing Week, “#YESThisIsNursing,” highlights the evolving roles of nurses in light of expanding digital technologies. Nursing roles are evolving at an exponential rate, particularly with the influence of technology and the expansion of digital technologies.

Nurses are highly trained professionals who play a vital role in our health care system. Their dedication, professionalism and sense of duty help to make our health care system one of the best in the world.

In our country each day, nurses provide safe, quality care and advocate on behalf of their patients and clients. Nurses also promote health and wellness, lead research and innovations, address health and social inequities, and carry out important work in the public interest. All this has a real impact on the lives of Canadians and on the health-care system.

The Professional Institute encourages you to take a moment this week to celebrate all nurses and the profession of nursing — a profession that truly contributes to positive outcomes for patients, clients, families and communities.
