The Opening of the 96th AGM of the Professional Institute

At 8:30 a.m. sharp on Friday, November 6, 2015, AGM Co-Chair Marilyn Best called the 96th Annual General Meeting to order with a warm welcome to the 423 delegates. The assembly observed a moment of silence to honour members who had passed away since the previous AGM. Pursuant to a resolution at the 2014 AGM, delegates were proud to stand at attention for the Canadian National Anthem.

Marilyn Best reviewed the rules of procedure and conduct, and led the delegates through the initial items on the agenda.

The theme of this year’s AGM is Restoring the Balance. With a new government in office, public service professionals represented by the Institute are looking forward to the return of free and fair collective bargaining, the repeal of recent anti-labour legislation, reinvestment in critical programs and services that keep Canadians healthy, safe and prosperous, and the return to a relationship with Canada’s elected leaders based on mutual respect and integrity.
