Legacy logo

Earlier this year, the Professional Institute launched its Legacy Foundation and celebrated its 90th anniversary. We reflected on the tremendous contributions our current and past members have made to the Canada we know today, and the country our children will inherit. As an organization of professionals for whom the pursuit of knowledge is a cornerstone value, the Institute understands that building a strong future requires investment in the education of our youth. In fact, the mission of the Foundation is to promote the values of professionalism and service to community by awarding scholarships to students attending post-secondary institutions.

The Legacy Foundation benefited from the proceeds of the 2010 PIPSC Open held in June 2010. Thanks also to the generosity of our sponsors, the Legacy Foundation was able to award a record number of scholarships to deserving students for the 2010-2011 academic year: 37 scholarships totalling $81,500. Of these, 20 scholarships were awarded to children or grandchildren of PIPSC members, including 4 awards funded by the Founders’ Fund (see below). In addition, 17 scholarships were awarded to candidates identified through our partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

Contributions to the Foundation are welcomed. It is a charitable organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (Charity Business Number 80869 4954 RR0001). For more information, please visit the website or contact Jo-Ann Foster at jfoster@pipsc.ca.

Founders’ Scholarships

Our legacy of supporting education began and lives on through the Founders’ Fund, thanks to generous donations from the several PIPSC constituent bodies (see list at right). This Fund is held in an interest-bearing account, and the interest is awarded as Founders’ Scholarships each year. In 2010, three $1,500 and one $500 Founders’ scholarships were awarded.

Sponsors’ Series Scholarships

The Legacy Foundation is proud to partner in this endeavour with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Through this partnership, the Foundation identified and awarded scholarships to deserving students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to gain a post-secondary education. As well, children and grandchildren of members were awarded scholarships based on community service and academic excellence.
