Regional Director Dan Jones opened the 66th B.C./Yukon Regional Council by welcoming the 62 participants. Philip Mantler was invited to Chair the Council while Regional Representative Evan Heidinger agreed to act as parliamentarian.

Guest speaker President Gary Corbett reported on the Institute’s ongoing issues and the strategic objectives including collective bargaining, steward development and creating links with other professional organizations to strengthen areas of mutual concern.

Sean O’Reilly, who is responsible for the Institute’s new Youth Initiative, presented the action steps aimed at attracting and engaging young members in our union.

Following the regional liaison and branch reports, the business of the Council concluded with closing remarks from Regional Director Dan Jones. The productive Council meeting was capped off with a reflection of the Institute’s work-life balance policy as spouses and children accompanied the delegates at the Saturday evening banquet dinner and dance.
