PIPSC Supports the Nova Scotia Teachers Union
The Professional Institute supports the 9,300 members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) who are conducting job action against their employer, the government of Nova Scotia. In response, the legislature may be asked this week to impose the tentative agreement that NSTU members had rejected last September.
“PIPSC members stand behind the NSTU. Teachers perform an invaluable and often difficult job and they deserve our respect and support – and that of their employer,” said PIPSC President Debi Daviau. “ We encourage the provincial government not to take action that would not only be inexcusable, but unfathomable at a time when the federal government is restoring the right to strike to its workforce, which had been lost under a previous regime. Such a reaction would be the exact opposite of what’s needed here, and it’s the province’s children who would pay the price for its short-sightedness.”
