Annual Report for the Prairies Northwest Territories Regional Council
Regina Branch
September 2009
How time flies when you’re having fun!
2008-2009 was another busy year. The year started with plans on what we wanted accomplish over the year. Some we managed to do, others fell by the wayside.
We are lucky to have Executive members on the Branch that are willing to do what they can to get members interested, volunteer for sub-committees, or do whatever’s needed to get things done. Some of the members are also on other PIPSC Executives or Committees.
In September a bowling night was held for members and their families. It was very much enjoyed by those present. Pizza was served and prizes were awarded.
In December, in coordination with the December branch meeting, the annual Christmas thank-you dinner was attended by the Branch Executive and their guests. It is a great way to show appreciation for the work and time they put into our activities.
The Branch AGM was held April 22nd with 40 members in attendance. A memento was given to each member in attendance as well as PIPSC memorabilia as door prizes. Walter Belyea was to be our guest speaker but, unfortunately, had to turn our invitation down at the last minute. Both the Branch President and the PNWT Regional Director did what they could to update the members on the PIPSC activities carried out throughout the year that impact on the regional members and on any bargaining issues. The Branch Bylaws had been amended and were presented and approved and were subsequently passed to our Regional Representative on the National Bylaws Committee to take forward. The holders of the Executive positions that were up for election all let their names stand and were elected. There is currently one open slot and we are hoping we can fill that position sometime through the year. The feedback we received on the meeting and the meal were positive.
In June, in coordination with an executive meeting, a barbeque was held for the Executive and their guests. Part of the meeting was used to discuss plans for next year’s PNWTRC which is to be held in this fair city. Although it is fun to sponsor this event, there is a lot of extra work and coordination required, especially when there is no PIPSC office in this location. The Winnipeg PIPSC office is as helpful as they can be. Once again, members of our Executive stepped forward to take responsibility for checking out venues and planning events. Like every other city who hosts this even, we try to make sure it a memorable and an enjoyable experience for all..
