You must select only one course. We reserve the right to assign you to a course other than the one you selected. You will be asked to select your course indicating an order of prefe-rence.

3 days : Leadership (See French synopsis below)

3 days : The Social Steward (See French synopsis below)

3 days: Disciplinary and Administrative Measures (See synopsis below)

Participants are expected to arrive between 10 AM and 12 PM on Wednesday February 10. A meal will be served on site between 12 PM and 1 PM and training will begin at 1 PM. Travel ex-penses will be reimbursed according to PIPSC Travel policies.

Members attending will be entitled to accommodations the night before the meeting if they cannot arrive at the meeting location on time without leaving home before 7 am. If this applies, please request the night of February 9 on your registration form in the Special Requirements section.

Training will finish around 2 PM on Saturday (depending on the course). In accordance with PIPSC Travel policies, if you are unable to arrive home before 8 PM, please request the night of February 13 on your registration form, Special Requirements section.

In addition, if you believe it unsafe for you to arrive home as per these policies, you may be entitled to accommodations for Saturday evening. Please contact Anne Renaud to request a special authorization.

These provisions apply whether members are travelling to the training venue by car or by plane. They also imply that they are travelling by the most direct route without stopping for a meal.

Since we cannot accept more than 15 participants in each course package, enrolment will be limited to 45 stewards for this project. Should we receive more enrolment requests than the number of seats available, a Selection Committee will be formed to select the participants based on different criteria.

You will be reimbursed for your Wednesday, Thursday and Friday salary, except in the case of stewards living within a short distance of the training location (Nicolet) who will not be able to claim reimbursement for all of Wednesday. Your travel expenses will also be reimbursed according to the Institute’s Travel Policy. All meals are included in the package, except for the Tuesday and Saturday evenings (when necessary), and two out of the three evenings from Wednesday to Friday. You will eventually be able to claim these meals as per the Travel Policy. We will make all reservations for you. Should you need to make special arrangements (car rental, stay-over, etc.), please contact Anne Renaudat the Montreal Regional Office.

Documents: The documents will be provided to you on site. However, please bring your collective agreement.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. distinguish between administrative and disciplinary measures;

2. identify the steps in and intent of the progressive discipline process;

3. appreciate the steward’s role in the administrative and disciplinary process;

4. support members facing administrative investigations and disciplinary hearings using effective interviewing, communication and investigation skills;

5. demonstrate an ability to assess discipline-related situations and to determine additional processes that may be required

6. network with other stewards and seek support and collaboration when required.
